Formed in 1787 Melton Mowbray’s Society for the Encouragement of Virtue punished vice, profanity and immorality. The three ingredients for this dark seductive stout. 2020’s version won best imperial stout in the UK and the best can design at the World Beer Awards. 2021’s edition marks RCB’s first usage of this year’s chosen barrel aging oak – Irish Whiskey Barrels. Society 2021 pours viscous and jet black. The mouthfeel is smooth and luscious, with delightful burnt malt, a powerful bitterness and a warming whiskey character. Slainte!
ThirstBourne Tasting Notes
This black beer poured with a stable light brown head. There is a complex woody and dark fruit aroma. There is a noticeable strength to this full bodied stout with caramel and sultana flavours that give way to the whiskey and wood aftertaste. A very indulgent and smooth imperial stout.
